When I started Splendor Books (now Pressed In Press) shortly after taking early retirement from HP, I had in mind "the market of me" (busy working moms who take lots of photos of family get togethers, soccer games, vacations, life..., but who don't have time to do anything with all them, other than fill up their hard drive or shoe boxes). I envisioned making it easy and fun to take those photos and turn them into family heirlooms -- books that can be passed on through generations.
I also liked the fact that, unlike scrap booking, published custom books (from on-demand book publishers like Blurb and Picaboo) can be ordered in multiple quantities at very reasonable prices. That means that the investment in time and money to create one book -- say of your family reunion or wedding or your new baby -- can be leveraged into gifts for many family members or purchased by many others besides yourself.
Each one of these examples is a book I created for my family or for others. I wish you could hold each of them in your own hands to really experience how beautiful they are in real life. Some are as small as 7 by 7 inches (a sweet size for displaying on a shelf) while others are impressive 13 by 11 inch coffee table books like you'd find in a bookstore. You can select the style and story you'd like me to help you tell.
I'd invite you to thumb through (virtually) any of the books on the right that peak your interest. You can also visit Travel Journals and Blessed is He to get ideas and more details about those two book series.
How It Works
I'll meet with you to see the photographs you'd like me to use and to brainstorm about the type of book you'd like to have. We'll look at different layouts and backgrounds and book sizes to determine the best fit for your need (and budget).
I'll give you a firm price for my services to design the book, do any restoration or PhotoShop work on your photos, based on the number of pages and the amount of specialty work required. I'll also give you a price for the books themselves including duplicate copies. And of course, we'll agree on a deadline for getting the book finished and in your hands.
It's usually prudent to get started at least a month before you need the book, to allow for planning, design and publishing time. When you're ready to talk about ideas, just give me a call or shoot me an e-mail. I'd love to work with you!
Pricing
Here's sample pricing based on the number of photos, captions and size of the book I design for you. After we meet I'll give you a firm price based on your specific requirements.
